Separate the systems
One fixture can connect to several scopes.
A fixture count is only one part of plumbing takeoff. The water supply, waste connection, and venting information may be distributed across floor plans, risers, and details. Start by identifying where each quantity should be taken from.
Use separate Relden rows and layers for systems you need to check independently. Naming a route “Level 1 — domestic cold water” makes its purpose visible when you return to the takeoff.
Valves and accessories
Keep manual counts for valves and discrete accessories distinct from fixture counts. You determine which details represent additional items.
Pipe routes
Trace visible pipe runs on a calibrated sheet. Use separate named rows where system, size, or location changes the estimating scope.
Follow the documents
Plan quantities need a riser check.
Compare plan and riser
Identify repeated references to the same fixture and the information each drawing adds. Decide where to count the physical item once.
Review included fixtures
Place manual points or select a fixture reference for Find Similar on the page. Accept only included candidates after checking notes for existing, replacement, and owner-supplied work.
Trace horizontal runs
Calibrate each page before measuring routes. Keep domestic water and DWV quantities distinct where your scope requires it.
Reopen and reconcile
Select each saved row to inspect its geometry. Review vertical runs, connections, and fittings separately using the relevant documents.
A matching fixture is not another riser quantity
A floor drain or valve symbol can recur in a plan, a riser, and a detail. Page-specific matching does not reconcile those references or identify the connected system. Only accepted detections contribute to a smart count; check tags and scope before accepting them. Keep manual points as a separate counting option.

Can I keep hot and cold water quantities separate?
Yes. Save separate named rows and use layers to organize the systems. Relden does not classify the pipes automatically; you decide which route belongs to each system.
Does a floor-plan measurement include vertical pipe?
No. It measures the path you trace on that page at its calibration. Vertical work needs a separate review of risers, sections, and project conditions.
Can I return to a counted fixture?
Opening a saved count row focuses its points on the appropriate page. You can review or adjust those marks without losing their connection to the quantity.
